Safety

All Orientation events that are run on licensed premises comply with all liquor licensing laws; drinks will only be served to those 18+, no intoxicated person will be served or allowed entry.

In addition to these regulations, various other safety measures are taken including:

• Maximum numbers of security staff and Red Cross staff at all venues.
• 'Are you Okay?' harassment contacts at all major events. These contacts are trained to deal with harassment situations and intoxicated students and are there to keep people safe.
• Red Frog-a student run event safety group run "Hydration Stations" at OUSA events giving away icey poles, sweet doughnuts and water to all.
• The take-home van service, which is a way to ensure that intoxicated or unwell students get home safely; no student should have to walk home alone if they have to leave an Orientation event early.
• U-18 policy means that 17-year-old tertiary students can join the fun and still be included in a safe, regulated environment, instead of randomly drinking wherever they can in situations that may be unsafe.
• OUSA staff and volunteers are at the event venues to deal with any problems that may arise.
• OUSA provides free water to patrons inside all venues from a highly visible easy access water station.
• The combined Christian group sets up a tent for the duration of Orientation. Throughout the night they offer hot drinks and food. They also provide a quiet place to sit down, away from the crowds if people are feeling unwell or just need somewhere warm to chill out for a bit.
• Cheap non-alcoholic drinks are provided and prominently advertised at the bar as alternatives to alcoholic ones.
• Hot Food is available at the venues for a small price
